CEO AI R&D issue researching same product multiple times

If I let the AI manage R&D projects after a while it decides to start multiple R&D projects for the same product wasting a lot of money. This happens when focusing on producing one product group (CEO expertise). It starts opening R&D centers left and right to gain technology levels but it won't help since in the end the target tech for all of them is the same.
